There are many benefits to working for oneself, as a freelancer – freelancers can pick and choose what work they’d like to take on and when they’d like to work. Freelancers are, after all, their own boss. However, the flip side of these ‘pros’ of working independently can also be the ‘cons’: interpreters often work without support structures around them, and the fact that freelancers’ work is not confined to any one ongoing place of work or regular hours often means the blurring of boundaries between work hours and leisure hours. These factors can lead to stress and difficulty in separating one’s personal/non-work life from one’s work-life.
